Један од најкрупнијих догађаја који су се десили у СФР Југославији свакако су биле демонстрације на Косову 1981. године. Ипак, према устаљеној пракси власти, вести које су долазиле до грађана, а и оне које су одлазиле у етар других држава, биле су добро обрађиване и „филтриране“, како би се функционисање државног апа- рата и стање у друштву приказало на најбољи начин, а принцип „братства и јединства“ најлакше одржао. Такви примери су очигледни приликом извештавања о демонстра- цијама у покрајини. О тим догађајима јавност су пробраним речником обавештавали домаћи листови, попут „Борбе“ и „Јединства“. О ситуацији у покрајини у месецима по- сле демонстрација распитивали су се и страни новинари, који су у неким случајевима наилазили на непремостиве препреке да о правом стању ствари известе своје читаоце и гледаоце. One of the most significant events that took place in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugo- slavia was undoubtedly the 1981 protests in Kosovo. However, in accordance with the established practices of the authorities, the news reaching both the domestic public and international audiences was carefully processed and “filtered” to portray the functioning of the state apparatus and the social climate in an idealized manner, thereby facilitating the preservation of the principle of “brotherhood and unity.” Such practices were particularly evident in the media coverage of the demonstrations in the province.
