  <dc:description xml:lang="eng">Thetopicofthisworkisthehiddensideofthecommunistrevolutionandideologyin the Former People’s Republic of Yugoslavia in the years following the Second World War, which presented itself in the shape of repression, shadowing, prohibitions, and the liquidation of those ideologically opposed. A memoir novel published in Belgrade in 1990, written by Serbian director, writer, playwright, and academic Vasilije Popović (Pavle Ugrinov), The Warm Fifties was the basis for this work. The plot of the novel is divided into two parallel storylines. One of them is broad and societal, following the life of an artist and the birth of Belgradeʹs avant-garde theatre associated withthebanonSamuelBeckettʹsWaitingforGodotandUgrinovʹsbattletopublishhisstoryonthe meaningoftherevolutiontitled“TheShortWhiteWall.”Thelonger,moreintimatestoryfollowsthe destiny of a student actress named Marta, an ex Goli Otok prisoner who committed suicide after returninghome,sinceshecouldnotreintegrateherselfintosociety.Byfollowingboththeopenand thehiddenrepression,theauthorwillfindsimilaritiesbetweenthehiddenfaceofcommunismand theNaziideology,whichwillthenturntherevolutionaryintoanabsurdheroandtherevolutioninto a mother that will devour her children.</dc:description>
