o:7421 ZAŠTITA ŠUMSKOG FONDA RACIONALNIJIM KORIŠĆENJEM POSEČENE DRVNE MASE GROWING STOCK PRESERVATION BY ECONOMIC USE OF THE FELLED WOOD VOLUME sr From year to year demands for wood increase though many attempts have been made to use metal, plastics or some other material as a raw material instead of wood. In consequence of reconstruction of wood conversion plants and so increasing their conversion capacity, and especially of the plants for chemical conversion of wood, shortage of wood as a raw material has been created and there is need for its importing. Statistical data from 1971 show that only 77% of the felled wood was exploited, while 33% was waste, left on the forest land to rot. In the technological process of felling and working out of assorments on the stump in the forest, cross sutting of bolewood is left ocer to forest workers for what they are not trained enough and they usually do it according to their subjective estimation. Increased demands for wood as a raw material may be partly satisfied by more economic use of the felled wood volume. Changes should be made in the technological process so that bolewood is cross cut at the temporal or main depots under supervision of qualified forest experts. In the like way, through fundamental investments, it is necessary to find out a possibility of exploiting scrub as a raw material for production of boards or paper in combination with other qualitative raw materials. However, the problem has to be examined in all its complexity. In forestry, beside other things, it is necessary to find out the optimum limit of exploitation of scrub, lest the forest soil should be impoverished.
