<dc:description xml:lang="eng">The elevation zone of the complex Golia over 1500 m is overgrown with
pure an mixed spruce forests.
In the late fiftieth years of this century the clearings and the openings inside
the complex were afforested with Scots pine (Pinus silvestris L.).
The quality analysis of the existing Scots pine plantations on the mountain-
ridge and on the higher parts of this zone, at the sea level of 1700--1750 m,
has shown domination of some very deformed, forked and topped trees of poor
vitality especialy on the very ridge. The best solution would be to cut these unsuccessful
Scots plantations and to replace them with some other more appropriate
species - Norway spruce on deeper, more protected places and to make
trials with Macedonian pine (Pinus peuce G rise b.) on the ridge parts,.
Plantations at the sea level of 1510--1700 m, on the transition site of Aceri
heldreihii..Fagetum and Piceetum excelsae s. 1. (locality M. Muhovica); on spruce
sites of Piceetum excelsae s. 1. (locality Careva Glavica) and Vaccinio-Piceetum
(locality Bele Vode), as well as on the transition site of Piceetum excelsae s. 1.
and Fagetum subalpinum are of good vitality, quality and productivity. They
only need to be intensively tended to the end of the rotation period. In the second
half of the rotation period the opening of the canopy should be done by intensive
thinnnings, which will enable natural regeneration of spruce and if remain
some unregenerated places they have to be planted with spruce seedlings.
The analisis of height and diameter increments of Scots pine plantations
and their productivity expressed by current volume increment shows that the
most productive plantations are those on the transition site of Aceri heldreichii-
Fagetum and Piceetum excelsae s. l. (locality M. Muhovica) at the sea level of
1570 m (Zv = 11.22 - 16.68 m3/ha); then on the site of Vaccinio-Piceetum (locality
Bele Vode) at the sea level of 1510 (Zv == 11.42 - 12.37 m3/ha). while the smallest
productivity was found on the localities Careva Glavica and Jankov Kamen at
the sea level of 1600-1700 m (Zv = 8.81 - 11.42 m3ha) where the pine trees are
of poor quality, being excessively branched and knotty.</dc:description>
