SA RAZLIČITOM INSERCIJOM UGLA GRANA VARIABILITY OF MEDULLAR RAYS IN BEECH TREES, WITH DIFFERENT BRANCH INSERTION sr On the localities Majdanpečka Domena, Boranja and Željin, dimensions of medullar rays in beech were analyzed, which are in a great extent variable characteristics, especially width and taper coefficient. The analysis of the variance for each characteristic showed higher variability inside one locality than among localities. The differencies among localities with extreme medium values of analyzed characteristics can not be accepted at the level of 0,01 % with 3 and 23 df. When using regression analysis, correlation link of any variable of medullar rays with tree age was not ascertained, what was also the case with the height of medular rays and stem diameter. A weak positive correlation link was concluded between the stem diameter and the width of medullar rays, while a negative link of the same strength was found between diameter and taper coefficient. The height of medullar rays is their only variable which is correlated with the tangent of branch angle. The link is negative and of medium strength (r = -0,5273), significant at the level of 0,01 %. The analysis of covariance didn't reduce variability inside test plots, so the greatest part of stem variability, with regard to the studied characteristics of medullar rays, has remained unexplained.
