<dc:description xml:lang="eng">For afforestation of bare-lands on serpentine and lime-stone parent rocks
mainly Black pine plants, produced in containers of hard plastics, aire used in
SR of Serbia. These plants offer better survival in extreme site conditions on
bare-lands; they are also more economic and can be planted nearly during the
whole year, even in summer time.
Three types of domestic containers - Jukosad, GORA 78 and Plantagrah -
were investigated in the nursery and field conditions.
It was concluded that in the nursery conditions the heights and root collar
diameters of sax months old plants were rather uniform for alI types of containers.
A little higher number of lateral roots was found in plant produced in Jukosad
containers. Some other paralmeters, like the air dried weights of needles and
roots, were also uniform for all containers, only the weights of the air dried
stems of the plants grown in Plantagraph containers were a little lower.
The field tests with these plants were established on several localities: on
the schists of the mountain of Jastrebac on the site of a recently cut beech forest;
on the lime-stone bare- lands of Vlaška mountain near Pirot and on the
serpentine bare-lands in Brus forests.
Three years after planting it was found that the best results of survival
for all types of containers were on Jastrebac, on the most unharmed site. On
that locality the height growth of plants was better than on the other two,
showing a higher influence of the site on plant development than of the type of
containers in which the plants were produced.
The analysis of root development did not show any significant differences
among various types of containers, the root penetration being good in all cases.
On can expect that the later observations should enable more exact conclusions
about the existance or non-existance of the influence of some of investigated
containers on better growth of Black pine plants, which were abundantly
used for afforestations of bare-lands in our country.</dc:description>
