<dc:title xml:lang="eng">DEVELOPMENT OF CONIFEROUS PLANTATIONS FOUNDED IN SUMMER PERIOD WITH CONTAINERIZED SEEDLINGS</dc:title>
 <dc:description xml:lang="srp">Serpentine parent rock, well-marked relief and severely destroyed plant
cover, especially forest vegetation, have rendered the lbar-valley one of the most
eroded region in Yugoslavia. Afforestation of a greater area of bare-lands, as one
of the most complex ways of controling erosion, has started in 1978, by using
contrainerized seedlings which were planted in summer period.
Development of plantations which were founded in the period 1976-1982. was
studied on 17 test-plots. The following data were analyzed:
- morphological characteristics of seedling stems, i.e. total heights, root-
-collar diameters and dynamics of height increments;
- site conditions of each test-plot;
- soil preparation before planting;
- method and time of planting;
- tree species and
- type of seedlings and containers.
Analysis of these data, made for each year separately, has enalbled the
following conclusions;
- Preparation of the soil before planting has a strong influence on seedling
development in the first years after planting.
- In similar site conditions, on well prepared soils, after correctly made
planting, plantations which were founded with the seedlings produced in containers
of hard plastics have shown the same and even better results than the
plantations of the same species, founded with classically produced seedlings.
- In the first years after planting seedlings produced in ,,Kopparfors" and
,,Jukosad" containers have shown similar results of heights and diameters
- The intensity of height growth in the plantations founded with corntainerized
seedlings does not depend on the height at planting time.
- The black pine plantatlion, which was founded in the fall of 1978. with
containerized seedlings has shown very close results of the studied parameters
to those achieved in the plantation of the same species, planted in similar conditions
in the summer.
- The best results have shown Scots pine plantations wilthout regard to the
soil preparation and seedling type.
- The intensity of plantation development is directly dependant on the
depth of pedological layer, without any direct connection with the type of the soil.
- The quantity of the stone on the surface or in the profile is in reverse
proportion to the intensity of height and diameter increments of plantations.
- On steep slopes over 30⁰, on which soil preparation very often was not
done according to the afforestation plans, the growth of the planted seedlings was
reduced.
- The exposition of the slopes plays an important role on plantation development,
those exposed to the south or east being the most unsuitable.
Finally it should be underlined that the investigation period was very
short and that further investigations should enable more deailed and more
certain conclusions.</dc:description>
