o:7043 ISTRAŽIVANJA OBNAVLJANJA DEGRADIRANIH BOROVIH SASTOJINA NA SERPENTINU SADNJOM I SETVOM STUDY OF REFORESTATION OF DEGRADED PINE STANDS ON SERPENTINES, BY PLANTING AND SOWING sr The investigation of the possibilities of reforestation of degraded pine stands on stony shallow serpentine sails, has shown that in the climatic condiitions of the mountain of Maljen, on an altitude of 700-850 meters, it was possilble to afforest them by planting containerized plants without soil preparation, as well as by sowing black pine (Pinus nigra Arn.) and Scots pine (Pinus silvestris L.) seeds on small parcels, prepared in advance. The comparative analysis has shown that the black and Scots pine survivals were very close to each other, while of the yellow pine (Pinus ponderosa Doug I. et L a w s.) fell much behind them, so the use of the last species on the sepentine soils, exposed to the south, has neither biological nor economic justification. Also the comparative analysis according to the type of seedlings dildn't shown any essential differences in survival between ,,Jukosad'' and ,,Paperpot" seedlings, but the mean height values were higher by the first type of containerized seedlings. The comparision of the species in the same time period has shown better height increments and total heights of Scots pine than of black pine seedlings. The yellow pine plants have had small height increments and total heights, proving the arid, eroded serpentine soils unsuitable for their growing. The results of afforestation by sowing Scots and black pine seeds, on small cultivated parcels, were satisfactory in the given site conditions. According to the number of plants on the surface unit, the Scots pine had an advantage over the blacks pine. The partial soil cultivation makes suitable prerequisite conditions for natural regeneration.
