I KORELACIJA IZMEĐU NJIHOVIH KARAKTERISTIKA CONTRIBUTION TO THE STUDY OF CONE SIZE HERITABILITY AND CORRELATION AMONG THEIR CHARACTERISTICS IN FIR (ABIES ALBA MILL.) sr On a sample of 430 cones, collected in the same year on the mountain of Goč (S. R. of Serbia), on 43 trees of fir (Abies alba M iII.), several characteristics were analyzed. The length, the width and the cone weight, as well as the number of seeds per cone and their weights vary much more among the trees than on one tree. The relationship between genetic and total variance shows that the length and the cone width are under genetic control, the heritability (h2) being 0,69 and 0,67 (or 69% and 67%). A small correlative bond (r = 0,3526) exists between the cone length and the width. The cone weight correlates medium strongly with their lengths and widths (r = 0,7091, r = 0,7283). but strongly with the combination of the two (R = 0,8741). The number of seeds per cone weakly correlates with the cone dimensions (r = 0,4215, r = 0,4285), while with the cone weight and the seed wieght per cone it correlates midium strongly (r = 0,6354, r = 0,7786). The seed veight per cone shows a medium strong correlation with the cone dimensions (r = 0,6967, r = 0,6875), but it strongly correlates with the combination of the cone length and width (R = 0,8416).
