<dc:description xml:lang="srp">Sažetak: U uslovima stalnog rasta globalne privrede jedan od najvažnijih elemenata privređivanja predstavlja proizvodnja i distribucija električne energije. Razvojem
<dc:description xml:lang="eng">Summary: In the conditions of the permanent growth of the global economy, one of the most important elements of the economy is the production and distribution of electricity. With the development of new technologies and automatization, the need for electricity is ever growing, with it, the impact that the electricity market has on the environment.
Instability of the electrical network, price fluctuations, import of electricity and the
use of coal as the primary source of production are some of the main problems of the
electricity market monopoly in the Republic of Serbia. One of the possible solutions to these problems is the deregulation of the electricity market. Opening the market would definitely bring about competition and more options for the consumers, but
the consequences that deregulation might have on the environment will depend
directly on the way the deregulation would be carried out and the speed at which the
infrastructure would keep up with the changes. Deregulation does not mean a complete lack of rules, moreover it is necessary to create the conditions in which deregulation would happen, as well as modalities through which the positive effects of introducing competition would be directed towards environmental protection and increasing the use of renewable energy sources. This paper presents the positive effects of the deregulation of the electricity market, taking into account the specificities of Serbia's market and potential, as well as positive examples from the practice of countries that have already
gone through the process of electricity market deregulation.</dc:description>
