Утврђивање мере важности појма и феномена Косовског завета у српској култури и етичким преми- самасавременогсрпскогдруштвапредстављапосебан,немањеважан сегмент истраживања као рефлекс ширег сагледавања данашњег односа према традицији. ThroughthehermeneuticresearchofthephenomenonoftheKosovoCovenant, based on hagiographical literary concepts and artistic achievements, author in this articlearrivesattheconclusionthatthefoundationsofHellenic-ancientculturearethe essence of ethical postulates of this phenomenon. The epic dimensions of the heroic sagaoftheKosovoBattle,throughacertainembodiedidealism,evokethecategories of Hellenic ethics (characteristics - άρετή, heroism) as well as its close connections withtheepictradition.Guidedbytheidealofnoblenessdefinedinthisway,theSerbs, then,fromatribe,becomeadistinguishedspirituallineage.Theassumptionofsucha “genesis”certainlyisfoundedinChristianity,andtheKosovoCovenantisahistorical reflectionandimprintoftheNewTestament.Inthiscontext,thepersonalityofPrince Lazar sublimates both personal virtues and spiritual stratification as well as the national idealizationofreality.Confirmationsofsuchaconstructionwerefoundinartandfolk/ epicworks.AsignificantparticularityofHesychasm,thedominantchurchteachingin Lazar’s(andStefan’s)SerbiaimmediatelybeforeandaftertheBattleofKosovo,maybe observedinKosovo’sheroismandnationalidealismthroughcommitmenttotheKing- domofHeaven.Itcanthereforebeconcludedthatnothingsoconvincinglyrepresents the deep rootedness of Christianity in the Serbian people’s consciousness as Svetosavlje orSaint-SavanessandtheKosovoCovenant.Inahistoricalsense,thephenomenonof theKosovoCovenantisconnectedwiththeideasoffreedomandexpressedinthelater centuriesoftheOttomanruleintheBalkansaswellasduringthewarsofliberation. ThereceptionofthephenomenonoftheKosovoCovenanttoday,bothintheSerbian culturalsphereandoutsideit,isshowntobeaproblemofessentialmisunderstanding and misinterpretation. This problem represents the effect of both the post-Yugoslav discourse and, more broadly, the Protestant dominant model of thought in the mod- erncivilizationoftheso-calledWest.Thus,somemanifestationsoffaithandnational piety,associatedwiththeKosovoCovenant(thetransferofLazar’srelicstoRavanica in1989)wereunderstoodashighlypoliticalandinanegativecontext.Forthisreason, itwasnecessarytoconcludethatanoriginalChristianperspectiveisindispensableto understand the phenomenon of the Kosovo Covenant.
