Abstract: This paper analyzes the formation of the Albanian illegal separatist movement, from the first Albanian demonstrations in the SFRY in 1968 to the outbreak of mass, violent demonstrations in the area of SAP Kosovo, at the end of March 1989. During this period, a group of former political prisoners, few members of the shattered illegal groups, and several student leaders from the 1968 demonstrations, a well-organized, mass movement ensued, with a branched network of illegal organizations throughout the province and the support of a number of Albanian immigrant groups.
