  <dc:description xml:lang="eng">Abstract:  The importance of traffic safety can always be discussed as a current topic and problem. The development of traffic, means of transport and transport infrastructure has opened the door to security issues and the need to innovate the security policy that should be implemented in the future. A very important issue is the need to position the railway police as an institution that will have the task of raising the safety level in railway traffic. An overview of the organization of the railway police at the level of European countries is given, along with an analysis of the work of those services. In the Republic of Serbia, railway traffic safety is dealt with by the regular police, while in many countries of the world a special railway police was established for this purpose with responsibilities that relate exclusively to railway traffic. </dc:description>
