In urban areas, groundwater, as a source of drinking water for households, and commercial and industrial needs, has played a significant role in the development of cities. Due to the influence of anthropogenic activities, groundwater in urban areas can be polluted with a more substantial number of pollutants and in higher concentrations. In this context, the protection of sources comes to the fore, and the preservation of groundwater quality is carried out by a set of legal and technical measures implemented through the definition and maintenance of sanitary protection zones.
